I tend to agree with Zach Handlen of The AV Club, who said: “this as far we’re going to get in terms of making sense. Not only because Mulder is a total jerk to Scully, but also because it sets the stage for the series’ overarching mythology, which to me was always its weakest element. This is a tense, tightly plotted episode, but it’s also a frustrating one.
